For over 45 years, Henrietta Ambulance has proudly served the residents, workers, and commuters within the Town of Henrietta. The organization was formed in 1962 by a group of residents who decided that the ambulance response time from the City of Rochester was too great. At that time, we dispatched ourselves; residents summoned our services by calling 'ED4-2000', our in-house emergency line. Medics were required to have only American Red Cross First Aid Training. In 1965, we handled approximately 400 calls for service.

Today, we are dispatched, along with every other department in Monroe County, by the Monroe County 911 Center. Calls are received over two-way radios and alpha-numeric pagers. Our medics are required to be at least a New York State Emergency Medical Technician; many are certified at the Intermediate, Critical Care, and even Paramedic levels. Today, we have eight vehicles and approximately 100 personnel to handle our 5000+ annual calls for service.

Our personnel come from all walks of life, many are career EMTs and Paramedics. While others are nurses, engineers, students, and even assembly-line workers. Some members have used HVA as a stepping stone to further their careers in Emergency Medicine. Some of our former members are now doctors, nurses, helicopter medics, and administrators for large EMS agencies.
